In March 2020, I had gallbladder surgery two days before New York City went into lockdown, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. My brother moved me out of my Brooklyn apartment in Bay Ridge, aware that world events were dire, I was going to lose most of my digital content strategist clients, and I was better off recovering at my mother’s house — our childhood home — on Long Island.
